The Doors Frontman Jim Morrison Once Predicted the Birth of Edm

by Joe Taysom

It’s safe to say that the sounds Jim Morrison created with The Doors was lightyears ahead of its time, the enigmatic vocalist is a figure that alternative music will always be forever grateful for—even if he was somebody that departed us painfully too soon.

Morrison was a pioneer that never stopped thinking about what was going to be ‘the big next thing’ rather than rest on his laurels and, with that in mind, it remains a tragedy that he passed away aged just 27. The Doors singer was prevented the chance to have had a career that no doubt would have the definition of trailblazing, one which was sadly starved from him and the world after losing his life in 1971.

His incredible foresight into the changing world of music is one that is typified in his comments about the future of music when he sat down in conversation with Rolling Stone back in 1969, a rambling chat which resulted in Morrison seemingly predicting the development of EDM. The genre has played a huge part in soundtracking the 21st Century and it was something that Morrison saw coming decades prior to Calvin Harris even being born.
