Basic Bro Jim Morrison Predicted EDM
- by Matt Miller

That bass drop on "Light My Fire" tho.
This explains so much: Why he frequently performed with a mouse helmet over his head. All those tweets linking to surprise Soundcloud mixtapes. Why his music so often relied on four-to-the-floor beats, tape stops, collaborations with Fetty Wap/Sia, and those sick, patient bass drops. Jim Morrison, frontman of The Doors, invented EDM music. Rolling Stone dug up this old interview with Morrison from 1969, where he talks about the future of music:
"A lot of people like Mozart were prodigies; they were writing brilliant works at very young ages. That's probably what's going to happen: some brilliant kid will come along and be popular. I can see a lone artist with a lot of tapes and electrical … like an extension of the Moog synthesizer—a keyboard with the complexity and richness of a whole orchestra, y'know? There's somebody out there, working in a basement, just inventing a whole new musical form."
Hey, if we're going to credit David Bowie with inventing the Internet and Bob Dylan with inventing hip-hop, let's give EDM to Morrison.
